Well the season has come to a close. The last races finished up in Fairbanks a week and a half ago. I was personally disappointed with the results. I was hoping to come back from Scandinavia and have enough in the tank to put together some solid performances, but that did not happen. What I learned is that I never really hit my distance form this year. I could get good early splits in each race, but I always faded off in the last few kilometers of the race. For me, this definitely means more closely monitored threshold training this coming summer and next fall. I believe that I can make big gains in my distance racing next year.
On the other hand, sprinting has gone well. The highlights were getting to race in the Trondheim WC classic sprint and winning in Rumford, ME. The classic sprints have helped me gain confidence going into next years classic sprint at the Olympics. Getting a start in, and performing well, in that race is already the dream goal for next season! There is a lot of work to be done though and I look forward to the process. The crew here in SV will be strong and I look forward to the group pushing each other to the next level.
Since the season ended I have gotten to do a bunch of great backcountry adventures. There was a huge ski crew hanging around up in AK after the Fairbanks races and we got to shred some powder in April! Now I am back in SV and hoping to get a few more days of good corn skiing in before the snow disappears for good!
Keep Charging- Colin
